| Sumario: | [EN] Welfare systems in Europe have made possible high degrees of economic prosperity and social cohesion since World War II. After the financial crack of 2007-08, the question to ponder is whether the present Bronze Age of welfare development (2008- ?) would maintain the levels of welfare development and social policy provision achieved during the second half of the XX century. At the global context, the rationale of the European Social Model (ESM) is confronted by alternative systems of economic development and social protection: Asian emergent “neo-slavery” practices and Anglo-North American individual re-commodification. The former proposes social dumping as an added value to achieve economic growth and the latter advocates the purchase of welfare services by the citizens themselves. Depending upon the general agreements among the main European ideologies and parties (Christian-Democrats and Social-Democrats, principally) the maintenance of the welfare systems and the ESM can be envisaged in the future as we have known them until now. |
