Descripción
Sumario:[EN] Encarnación López La Argentinita was one of the most important Spanish dancers during the Second Republic. She was a choreographer, dancer and director of her own company and she collaborated with various intellectuals and artists during the thirties. In 1933 she founded the Compañía de Bailes Españoles together with Federico García Lorca and Ignacio Sánchez Mejías. She contributed to the union of tradition and avant-garde on stage. After the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, La Argentinita left Spain and performed in the north of Africa and in Europe and she jumped to America in 1938. There, she developed an important career until her premature death in 1945. This essay presents La Argentinita’s trajectory during her exile, her most unknown period (1936-1945), through the recovery of her repertoire as well as the analysis of her creative and managing work.
