Bolstered by far-right rhetoric and disinformation, these attacks obstruct progressive politics and threaten gender equality, LGBTIQ+ rights, and anti-racism policies and practices. This policy brief outlines key feminist institutional responses from within political institutions such as parliaments, and actionable policy recommendations to counter anti-gender influence and to ensure a robust commitment to equality and core democratic principles.Most parliaments face anti-gender hostilities. Even the European Parliament, a historical champion and a pioneer for gender equality in some fields, sees its activities to be increasingly influenced by anti-gender actors. In all studied parliaments, anti-gender actors deploy tactics to influence the legislative process, such as disinformation campaigns and direct harassment against feminist parliamentarians who defend gender-based violence measures, reproductive rights, LGBTIQ+ rights, and anti-racism policies and practices.
