Summary:The main aim of this study was to examine the importance of the coach´s motivational climate and the level of team cohesion on sport commitment. The sample was composed of 867 football players ranging in ages from 11 to 16 years who completed questionnaires that measured motivational climate, group cohesion, and sport commitment. Some of the most important results are that motivational climate and cohesion, social and task, are related and positively predict those commitment factors that foster commitment in sport practice. Consequently, it is important to use strategies that foster a mastery climate and better cohesion, because they can promote commitment shown by young football player
