Sumario:16 pages, 7 figures, supporting information https://doi.org/10.1111/gcb.70112.-- Data Availability Statement: The data that support the findings of this study and the code used are openly available in Zenodo at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14773398. The raw dataset of Catalan commercial fishery landings can be accessed by contacting ICM-CSIC at info@icatmar.cat. The file with this data is also available in the previously mentioned Zenodo repository. The sea surface temperature used to calculate species temperature of preferences was obtained from OBIS at https://github.com/iobis/robis and is based on Bio-ORACLE at https://www.bio-oracle.org/. Sea temperature data were obtained from the Copernicus Marine Service Information (CMEMS) Marine Data Store (MDS) at https://doi.org/10.25423/CMCC/MEDSEA_MULTIYEAR_PHY_006_004_E3R1
