The analysis endeavors to draw parallels between the two contexts to critically examine the extent to which similarities and differences are evident in terms of the growth of political nationalism. Finally, the central discussion outlines the extent to which sport contributed to broader political developments in the recent campaigns for the establishment of independent Scottish and Catalan states, focusing upon the actions of prominent sporting personalities and organizations. This research was supported in part by grants from the Oxford Brookes University Central Research Fund as part of the Santander Bank Research Scholarship Visits program.SAGE Publications202020202019info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersionapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttp://hdl.handle.net/10230/44223http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0193723519836398reponame:Recercat.
