Sumario:The synthesis of hydrochemical data obtained in the lower basin of the Loukkos river (Morocco) as well as the results of speciation and mass transfer calculations point out that the main processes which influence the groundwater composition of the study area are: a) the dissolution of calcite, dolomite, gypsum and halite, b) the acquisition ofC02 and c) the Ca/Na exchange with clayey sediments, although some mixing with connate saline waters can't be rejected. Thus, a hydrochemical evolution has been identified from low salinity (less than 0.5 g/l) waters of a Ca-HC03 type to others of 7-2 g/l (eventually a few tens of g/l) and Ca and/or Na-CI type
