Descripción
Sumario:[EN] In the 19th century, the foundation of new towns was raised again as the answer to the problem of colonization. In the Argentine pampas, more than a hundred populations were founded in less than a hundred years. These populations were drawn mostly by surveyors following the prescriptions of the Department of Topography of Buenos Aires. The cartography elaborated by the surveyors has the purpose of dividing the land to adjudicate it to future settlers, and to settle the limits of the towns. However, these maps are also the tool for designing and building the city (frequently the only one). In this article, we seek to value the operational strategies that allowed the production of these urban cartographies, based on the analysis of more than 200 population plans.
