This article argues that "Nuestra América" should be understood as a vital example of decolonial, ecocritical knowledge production from the South, and examines how the essay conceptualises nature as a narrative that contests the anthropocentric, colonial exploitation of the environment and fosters a planetary vision of the human.La búsqueda de una identidad genuinamente latinoamericana fue fundamental para los movimientos independentistas del continente y dio lugar a uno de los entrelazamientos más destacados entre discursos identitarios y narrativas sobre la naturaleza: el ensayo seminal "Nuestra América" de José Martí.
