| Summary: | Eleven clay samples of interest for ceramic work have been studied. They were taken from different deposits, currently being worked, and located near Linares, Ubeda, Beas de Segura, Sorihuela de Guadalimar and Santisteban del Puerto in lans dating the triassic system. The results obtained show the nature of these clay samples are basically ilitic, with chlorite and kaolinite as secondary minerals, but with a high amount of iron oxides giving to the samples a strong red colour. The amount of CO3Ca in most of the samples is about 10% and the percentage of carbonates is very low. The above named materials are used for making paving-bricks of "Italian stoneware". The most plastic clays are shaped by hand in the handcraft factories, specially in Ubeda. |
