| Resumo: | Royal visits are undoubtedly the public celebrations that had the greatest impact on the territories of the monarchy, since the physical presence of the monarchs in the cities farthest from the court was rare. Palencia was visited by Ferdinand VII in 1828, the first and only visit by an incumbent of the Bourbon dynasty in the Ancien Régime. These events were propaganda tools in the service of royalty that served to strengthen their bond with their subjects, but also for the urban oligarchies (Council and Cathedral Chapter) to prove their loyalty to the Crown. The complex organization and meticulous staging of the ceremony and festivities give an idea of the enormous deployment of human and technical resources carried out by the authorities, taking into account the economic outlay, the expenditure of which had a negative impact on the public purse. |
