| Sumario: | This chapter reviews Abū Bakr Ibn al-ʿArabī’s thought on different questions of Islamic legal and theological doctrine, such as unlawful sex (zinā), sexual violence, conciliation (ṣulḥ), arbitration (taḥkīm), the dhimma covenant and dhimmīs’ voluntary recourse to Islamic justice (a practice known in English as “forum shopping”), the theological anathematisation (takfīr) of political and religious opponents, theological anthropomorphism (tajsīm), Sufism, debates about the number and entity of God’s best and most beautiful names (asmāʾ Allāh al-ḥusnā), and the dissemination of doctrines associated with the Qadarīs and the Muʿtazilīs in 5th–6th/12th century al-Andalus. |
