Sumario:Today every language teacher needs to focus all his or her efforts in finding the most efficient way to fulfill a successful learning process. In this sense, in order to help students understand word-formation processes in Spanish, we suggest starting on the idea that most terms in Spanish are polysign units. This is clearly manifested in the language used in advertising, one of the most familiar registers for secondary education students. The richness of such register and the precision of its lexicogenesis shall serve us teachers and handbook authors to engage in thorough thinking of the metalinguistic terminology used.
