Descrição
Resumo:[EN] Over the past two decades, the landscape of historical studies on psychiatry, mental health, and associated disorders has witnessed a remarkable expansion in the themes explored, coupled with a diversification in the sources utilized and theoreticalmethodological frameworks employed. This paper, focusing on the Ibero-American region, critically examines contemporary perspectives in psychiatric historiography. While acknowledging the existence of other potential viewpoints, the analysis is anchored in four specific dimensions: 1) the cultural construction of psychopathology; 2) an in-depth exploration of psychiatric institutions as intricate spaces shaped by diverse social actors or stakeholders; 3) a thorough examination of discourses, practices, and mental health policies extending beyond the confines of traditional asylums; and 4) an emphasis on incorporating the perspective of individuals with a psychiatric diagnosis. In addition, emphasis lies on the significance of studying mental health disorders beyond the confines of psychiatric disciplines. This necessitates fostering dialogue among diverse academic traditions and employing transdisciplinary approaches.
