| Sumario: | [EN] Intersectionality is one of the major conceptual contributions to feminism gener-ated in the last twenty five years. Its clarification of the study of the complex mechanisms of discrimination has allowed us to identify the diversity of the interactions emerging from the many types of subordination — sexual, ethnic, religious, national, or motivated by dif-ferent handicaps, social and economic status, or other factors. In this paper, I attempt to sketch the development of this concept, from its beginnings in legal studies, to its uneven expansion in the social sciences, as well as in different geographic regions. In some parts of the world, this disparate growth hinders the use of this conceptual instrument in practice, and stresses the need to examine differences and nuances — that tend to originate in the in-teractions between existing cultures, practices and institutions — for the sake of honing lo-cal methods and strategies |
