Nevertheless, the aesthetic innovations brought by epic drama are still alive in spite of the outdated political and revolutionary dogmatism on which it was supposedly founded. The thesis is illustrated by examples from three significant contemporary plays in Spanish: Rashid 9/11 from Jaime Chabaud (Mexico), Himmelweg from Juan Mayorga (Spain) and Huevos from Ulises Rodríguez Febles (Cuba).[ES] A la luz de las dos paradojas que se advierten en la raíz misma del llamado teatro épico, la política, en cuanto se presenta al servicio de una clase, el proletariado, que no puede sostenerlo, y la narrativa, derivada de la contradicción entre los dos modos de imitación aristotélicos, se defiende la tesis de que en la actualidad siguen plenamente vigentes las aportaciones estéticas (“narrativas”) del teatro épico, pero no el dogmatismo político revolucionario en que supuestamente se basaban.
