Sumario:This paper focuses on the theoretical and methodological foundations of the third wave in Sociolinguistics and its potentialities for the study and encouragement of plurilingualism in regional cultures like the Valencian. In this regard, a first approach to the enregisterment theory is applied in a context of Catalan linguistic minorisation – the País Valencià – , particularly, in the specific sociolinguistic context of the province of Castellón. In this sense, it is analysed which and how linguistic repertoires and variants become emblematic, i.e, acquire social meaning and create style, to perform and vindicate a local identity for the people from Castelló. The article explains the process through which the speakers themselves ideologically create boundaries between languages and varieties and which linguistic traits are made salient, so as to categorise linguistic difference and sameness and talk about the idiosyncrasy of the dialect of Castelló.
