In order to do so, a total sample of 1,197 ESO students (49.9% male and 50.1% female) was taken. They participated individually and without help, and answered a questionnaire with personal and family questions which analysed some variables related to these two main topics. Moreover, the final score of all subjects studied during that school year was included. Gender, type of institution, course studied, family structure, family economic status and cultural differences are highly significant.The student profile with a high overall academic performance corresponds to students from private schools, female, from an extended family with a high cultural and economic level.Para analizar la relación de los determinantes socioculturales sobre el rendimiento académico en los estudiantes de educación secundaria obligatoria (ESO) de la ciudad de Ba dajoz, se tomó una muestra total de 1197 alumnos de la ESO (49,9% varones y 50.1% de mujeres), respondieron de forma individual y sin ayuda a un cuestiona rio con datos personales y familiares en el que se analizaron algunas variables relacionadas con este tipo de datos, por otro lado, se incluyó la calificación final de todas las asignaturas estudiadas durante ese curso escolar. El género, el tipo de centro, el curso que estudia, la estructura familiar y el nivel económico y cultural familiar muestran diferencias altamente significativas. El perfil del alumno con un alto rendimiento académico global correaponde al estudiante de un centro concertado, se sexo femenino, de una familia ampliada y con un nivel económico y cultural alto.Universidad de Murcia.
