| Sumario: | Paraty, located in Costa Verde in Rio de Janeiro, is known for its unique tourist attractions, which include natural resources and a rich historical-cultural heritage. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized as a mixed site of culture and biodiversity. Paraty is also part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a Creative City of Gastronomy, due to the value and diversity of its local cuisine. However, Paraty's attractiveness contrasts with high levels of violence. Addressing this issue, this exploratory and descriptive study aims to analyze the perception of locals and visitors regarding po-tential factors that may restrict tourism in the area, as well as examine data on criminal incidents in Paraty, with an emphasis on violent fatality situations. Asurvey was conducted with 404 people, in-cluding tourists and residents, during both low and high seasons of 2023. The results revealed diffe-rences in safety perceptions, with tourists generally more optimistic about safety than locals. We be-lieve this study has contributed to understanding the challenges of tourism in Paraty and may serve as a basis for future research on the restrictive factors in the sector |
