| Sumario: | Nowadays, enterprises operate in environments characterized by high dynamism what makes them to be exposed to many adverse situations, changes and disruptive events that alter their normal level of operation. Many enterprises cannot guarantee a quick, effective and efficient response to such unexpected situations. For this reason, tools are needed to enhance the preparedness to quickly react to these critical events and efficiently recover from them in case of occurrence. Enterprise resilience is defined as the ability of enterprises to anticipate and respond to disruptive events. The consequences of limited enterprise resilience have a negative impact on the accomplishment of enterprises objectives, reducing their performance levels, making them vulnerable and diminishing their competitiveness. Although the concept of resilience has been studied and analyzed in many disciplines, it is necessary to address the study of resilience applied to enterprise world, since the current approaches that try to analyze and improve the resilient capacity of enterprises are in a very incipient and conceptual state. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to provide enterprises with the appropriate mechanisms to analyze their enterprise resilience capacity and offer them relevant information about the guidelines to be followed in order to improve this capacity to guarantee their long-term continuity. The present thesis proposes a complete, practical and enterprise-oriented, which consists of the definition of the SATIER tool (Self-Assessment Tool to Improve Enterprise Resilience) and a methodology that supports enterprises to undertake a project of analysis and improvement of their enterprise resilience. The SATIER tool builds on the fact that enterprise resilience is a function of the two pre- and post-disruptive capabilities: the enterprises' preparedness to anticipate the threat of disruptive events materialization and the recovery capability, as the response capacity to a disruptive event that has already occurred. Moreover, the tool has been also defined based on the conceptual framework of analysis and improvement of enterprise resilience, which includes the definition of 71 disruptive events with their corresponding preventive actions. Through a self-assessment questionnaire, enterprises provide the input datasets to the SATIER tool in order to calculate the current enterprise resilience index, which is function of the indices of their constituent capabilities. SATIER also calculates the future enterprise resilience index based on the definition of a series of improvements that facilitate the transition from the current state to the future ideal one. This transition is determined by: (i) the preparedness capability, characterized by the implementation of a set of preventive actions that increase the capacity of anticipation and preparation through the formulation of a mathematical programming model that offers an optimal solution for the activation of preventive actions and (ii) the recovery capability, based on the efficient knowledge management about the disruptive events historical. SATIER offers a knowledge registration module that allows enterprises to be able to create their own knowledge base to improve its response to disruptive events. The SATIER tool has been tested and validated in three enterprises of different sectors such as textile, automotive and construction. The validation has demonstrated the suitability of the SATIER tool to calculate the current enterprise resilience index and to provide guidelines on which preventive actions enterprises should implement to improve their preparedness capability as well as offer the design of the knowledge registration module to improve its recovery capability and thus improve the future enterprise resilience index. |
