The edifice is built up by dipping outwards thick basaltic flow piles in which pyroclastic are scarce. Three different subseries can be distinguished within these piles: Lower, Medium and Upper Series, all separated by unconformities. A fourth active episode, the Late Series, filled the inner basin, and was clearly emitted after a large tectonic graben took placeLa serie Basáltica antigua en Fuerteventura está formada por tres edificios principales: Norte, Central y Sur (o Jandía). El edificio Central, un volcán en escudo, se extiende desde El Jable hasta Valles Ortega, formando una forma semicircular alrededor de la cuenca adyacente. El edificio se construye mediante pendientes hacia el exterior de gruesas pilas de flujo basáltico en las que los piroclásticos son escasos. Se pueden distinguir tres subseries diferentes dentro de estas pilas: Baja, Media y Alta, todas separadas por discordancias.
