| Sumario: | Physical inactivity has become the fourth cause of death in the world due to the extended sedentary habits. This critical review will focus on physical inactivity as a morbility and mortality risk factor by assessing its effects on the five major non-communicable diseases (coronary heart diseases, stroke, type 2 diabetes, breast and colon cancer) and by analysing its economic consequences, to conclude calling for physical activity promotion from a multi-sectorial and multidisciplinary perspective and suggesting a promising strategy to reduce physical inactivity based on breaking up prolonged sitting time. |
