Sumario:Nowadays the outsider candidates, those who are running for elections without previous political experience and apart from traditional political parties, are common. This article includes a review of the most representative cases within the past 30 years analyzing the causes of this phenomenon, linked to the increase of the new forms of political communication and the promotion of infotainment and personalization, as well as the lack of confidence and public disaffection towards politicians due to the crisis and corruption. On the other hand this article also review the possible risks of the spread of these candidates for democracies.
