Summary:We studied a cohort of 106 melanomas to evaluate the prognostic significance of Breslow Density and its associationswith clinical and histopathologic features as well as BRAF mutational status.Our findings emphasize the prognostic relevance of tumor volume and support the use of BD as a complementary histopathologic variable, being equated to other prognostic factors not included in staging, such as mitotic rate, regression, or lymphoid infiltration. A BD of $65% has proved to be a significant cutoff for worse melanoma outcomes and suggests the potential benefit of closer follow up in these patients, given their decreased survival rate.
