| Sumario: | The aim of the present paper is twofold: on the one hand, to reconstruct the Old English field of sound symbolic verbs, and, on the other, to find out the syntactical behaviour of them. In order to carry out the research, the lexical field of Old English sound symbolic verbs was reconstructed by means of the Oxford English Dictionary, the Historical Thesaurus of English, the Thesaurus of Old English and the Dictionary of Old English. Once the field of Old English verbs was established, they were searched in the Toronto Corpus of Old English to get their occurrences in the texts.Whereas some of the verbs will show a limited number of syntactic combinations, other verbs of sound will allow the exploration of further syntactic properties. |
