También, siguiendo la técnica del teatro épico de Bertolt Brech, Hansberry utiliza como telón de fondo otro país que sirva de efecto distanciador para el público —tanto blancos como negros— que debe cuestionar la realidad para abandonar su papel pasivo y tomar posiciones. [EN] By the end of her life, Lorraine Hansberry had come to the conclusion that dialogue alone was not enough and Blacks as well as Whites needed to take sides. Les Blancs was her final statement about her position and an answer to Jean Genet's play The Blacks. Les Blancs is her only play taking place in Africa, thus, using symbolism and signifying, dance and music as dramatic elements characteristic of both African American and African cultures.
