| Sumario: | ABSTRACT: Surfing is a sport that has presented an enormous growth in the last years, increasing exponentially the number of people who practice and enjoy it. In this area, Cantabria is one of the leading regions in Spain, and it is for this reason that this work seeks to provide a quantitative response to the value and quality of the surfing resource and its application in the management and conservation of its áreas of interest in the region. A hybrid downscaling method has been developed that allows the precise evaluation of the characteristics of the incident waves in the main surfbreaks of the cantabric coast, being this scalable to all Spain and also worldwide. Making use of tools commonly used in oceanography, coastal engineering and data science, the historical record of oceanographic variables (wave height, period ...) of the last 40 years that is obtained allows statistical and climatic analysis of the beaches with better surfing conditions, which is useful in the management and planning of areas of interest to it, serving this work as a basis for a possible project of legal protection of the surfbreaks. |
