Sumario:[EN] The history of political ideas usually attributes a French and a German origin to the civic and ethnic concepts of nation respectively. This paper tries to go beyond this conventional distinction in order to explore the narrative strategies that underlie the making of national identities. For this purpose it makes use of Paul Rocoeur's ideas about the narrative structure of time and applies them to the categories and models operating in historiography and in political imagination
