Descripción
Sumario:The Valle de la Serena igneous outcrops are situated in the Obejo-Valsequillo-Puebla de la Reina domain of the northern Ossa-Morena zone (OMZ, Iberian Massif). This sector is considered to correspond to the contact area between the Central Iberian zone (CIZ) and the OMZ. It is composed of a Precambrian volcanic basement with calc-alkaline intrusive granitoids. Lower Ordovician microconglomeradc arkoses and Armorican quartzite from the CIZ occur discordantly overlying the Precambrian basement. The Middle and Upper Paleozoic sequence exhibits characteristics similar to those of the CIZ, being represented mainly by clastic rocks. Hercynian deformations resulted in large-scale sinistraI wrenching of ductile-brittle character. These deformations are similar to, and coherent with those recorded within the Badajoz-Cordoba shear belt during the same event. SHRIMP U-Pb dating of zircons from deformed igneous rocks of the Valle de la Serena sector have yielded protolith ages of ca. 570 Ma.
