| Resumo: | [EN] After the conclusion of the War of Succession in Catalonia (1714), the social, political and economic landscape was bleak, but also the artistic one. However, by the middle of the century the recovery was remarkable, which allowed a renewal of the ecclesiastical buildings (parish churches, hermitages, convents), but above all, in the case of Lleida, the construction start of a new Cathedral. The job offer for construction masters, painters, sculptors, goldsmiths and goldsmiths was enormous. This strong demand caused the arrival of artists from the rest of Catalonia and Aragon. The preserved documentation, although scarce, demonstrates this. In thiswork we begin these contributions with the case of the sculptor Félix de Sayas, a native of the Zaragoza town of Bijuesca. His learning and early years as a professional were developed in Zaragoza. He married in Barbastro and later moved to Lleida, where he settled permanently until his death, probably in the early nineteenth century. |
