| Sumario: | [EN] In the heart of a densely populated and diverse neighborhood, two neighboring municipalities have acquired a former office building to alleviate the acute shortage of secondary school facilities in Brussels. The initial phase addresses the urgent transformation of a first wing into classrooms to host the gradually increasing number of students. Capitalizing on the building's original open-plan concrete structure, the design reuses and adapts the system of lightweight, modular partition walls present on site, enhancing the space's inherent flexibility and creating an informal atmosphere that fosters appropriation. The project's second phase expands on this strategy, addressing the extension of the building with a sports hall, a restaurant and more classrooms. |
