Sumario:In 2024, global tensions persist, with conflicts such as those in Gaza and Ukraine continuing to impact the transportation and availability of crude oil. This reinforces the urgency of developing efficient and reliable marine renewable energy sources. As the transition to sustainable energy accelerates, ocean-based renewables present a largely untapped opportunity to transform the global energy landscape. Research on ocean energy control applications remains crucial to enhancing efficiency and reliability, making these systems more cost-effective and competitive with other energy sources. Technological advancements in this field could lead to new ocean energy technologies and strategies, expanding the range of harnessable resources. WWME originated as an initiative linked to projects PID2021-123543OB-C21 / PID2021-123543OB-C22, led by the ISCAR group at the Complutense University of Madrid (http://www.floatingwindturbineucm.com) and the Automatic Control Group at UPV/EHU (https://www.ehu.eus/en/web/acg/ikerketa). In a short time, it has evolved into an annual platform for presenting, discussing, and disseminating the latest developments and key findings in ocean energy research and education. It serves as a unique forum where multidisciplinary experts, academics, and industry professionals converge to exchange knowledge, tackle major challenges, and explore new opportunities. Other stakeholders benefit from deeper insights into the potential and challenges of wind and marine energy.
