Descripción
Sumario:This essay analyzes the relations between Church and State during the reign of Charles iv in the context of the economic and political crisis of the monarchy. With this aim, we focus on a judicial process of the Mercedarian friar Joaquín de Elvira, accused of making serious criticisms against the Queen Maria Luisa of Parma and Manuel Godoy; a case developed in an atmosphere characterized by the problematic relationship between the regular clergy and the government of Charles iv, as well as the difficult economic situation of the 90s of the XVIII century. These circumstances allow us, on the one hand, to approach the complicated situation of the reign and, on the other hand, to analyze the vision of the consort queen constructed by her contemporaries, characterized by the attack on her body as a form of condemn the body politic during a crisis.
