These events may additionally hinder the conservation of endangered species, including some with large economic investments made in their recovery. Obtaining standardized information is crucial for a better characterization of these events and, consequently, for the implementation of measures aiming at reducing their numbers and relevance. In Spain, the information about individual road incidents involving wildlife is gathered by different Administrations and may therefore be difficult to obtain general patterns due to the heterogeneity of the data collected. To solve this problem, here we present a unique and unified dataset of wildlife-vehicle collisions in Spain. We collected the information from the different Administrations, standardizing and including all information of each individual event in this new dataset. This dataset is a valuable resource not only because it will allow a deep characterization of the casuistry of wildlife-vehicle collisions in Spain but also because we believe that it provides a good example of which variables must be collected by the different Administrations responsible of these data.This work was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the SUMHAL project (LIFEWATCH2019-09-CSIC-13).
