Descripción
Sumario:Between 1998 and 2010 over 11,000 children born and adopted in 'Third World' countries arrived to Catalonia. Most of them come from countries with populations phenotypically different from those prevailing in the receiving society. This work’s objectives will be to explore Catalan society’s representations with regard to international adoption, adoptive parents and adopted children, using documentary sources; to study the perceptions that these children and young people have about themselves, their families, society around them, and their place within this society, to explore the degree of acceptance for those characteristics that differentiate them from others, and the resulting strategies; to find out which identity/ies are conferred to them by their families, teachers and general social environment. If any conflict emerges between these constructs, my ultimate goal would be to investigate the strategies that actors build to resolve it.
