Among them stands the monument to Augusto González de Linares (1845–1904), a pioneer of oceanography in Spain and founder of the country’s first marine biology station. Inaugurated in 1908 and created by the sculptor José Quintana, it combines bust, pedestal, and allegorical elements, such as the figure of Fame and a cushion with marine fauna. This study examines its artistic value, symbolic meaning, and the complex historical trajectory of the monument.[ES] A finales del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX, Santander vivió una intensa efervescencia cultural, científica y económica que se reflejó en la erección de monumentos conmemorativos. Entre ellos destaca el dedicado a Augusto González de Linares (1845-1904), pionero de la oceanografía en España y fundador de la primera estación de biología marina. Inaugurado en 1908 y obra del escultor José Quintana, combina busto, pedestal y elementos alegóricos, como la figura de La Fama y un cojín con fauna marina.
