Sumario:[EN]: Offers a survey of the urban elites in Ilb§ra during the 3rd/9th century and the first half of the 4th/10th century, focusing on the ‘ulam~’, as members of these elites. Special attention is paid to the social and ethnic origins of the ‘ulam~’, thus showing that those belonging to Arab families controlled the world of Islamic knowledge during the period under study, in contrast to what has been observed in other Andalusi regions.
