Descripción
Sumario:Water landscapes is a concept that gathers those territories in which historically water has developed a decisive role in their structure and cultural form, and eventually transforming their socio-economical processes, settlement adjustments to the environment, heritage resources, together with their inhabitant’s self identity. The main landscape generator element in the Beas river valley and the municipality of Beas de Segura (Jaén) is water: since the village genesis it has determined its location, urbanism, social model, architectures or economies, just as its productive and destructive processes. However, nowadays these elements show an apathetical and declining situation on the behalf of the village, which is slowly losing the memory of its landscape. Departing from a detailed process of characterization and signifcance of the distinguishing case study values, it is proposed to be included in the Register of Landscapes of Cultural Interest in Andalusia, as part of an enhancement strategy and patrimonial reactivation concerning water infrastructures and architectures, and its settlement perception and involvement. Nonetheless, it contributes to a new heritage approach that goes beyond the object and focuses in the way of inhabiting and perceiving the territory.
