| Sumario: | [EN] Throughout the course of the interview, we have been able to reflect on the commitments of Juan Herreros towards construction of the practice as a professional, pedagogical, and research project that has always focused on the construction of a discourse and on the production of corresponding graphic materials. His professional career is based on a series of acts of will that consciously select concerns, transits, resignations, convictions... which we will now try to uncover... In 1984, he founded Abalos & Herreros. This was followed by the LMI (Liga Multimedia Internacional) in 1999, Herreros Arquitectos in 2006, and Estudio Herreros in 2014. Estudio Herreros operates from Madrid but also has offices in New York and Mexico City. From there, he develops his professional activity which has particularly been based on the important international tenders that he has won, such as the Munch Museum and its surroundings in Oslo; the International Convention Center of Bogota; Santiago de Compostela High- Speed Station; residential complexes in Marseille, Casablanca, and Sant Boi (Barcelona); some singular commissions, such as, the TAP towers in Guadalajara (Mexico) and Banco Panama; the Coastal Parks of Panama City; the equipment of the accesses to the city of Colón; the Communication Hut project in Gwangju in South Korea... Juan Herreros has a well-measured discourse on the limits of Global Practice and how he wants to move away from the international label. In his office, the idea of the global invokes a way of thinking, tuning in to the sensitive conditions of each place. He incorporates talent and a multidisciplinary perspective to the project, both theoretically and professionally. This was the basis for reestablishing Herreros Arquitectos as Estudio Herreros in 2014 through the use of a partnership structure, with his first partner being the German architect Jens Richter, a long-term travel companion who has been with Juan Herreros for 15 years. |
