Descrição
Resumo:In this report we describe the field operation and first results from the joint field IRENE experiment conducted from the Research Vessel SOCIB at the Alboran Sea in July 2017. IRENE experiment leaded by CSIC and SOCIB (Spain) was carried out in collaboration with colleagues from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (EEUU). The intense oceanic Almer.a-Or.n front between Atlantic and Mediterranean Water has been mapped in detail, using a multi-platform approach: thermosalinograph at surface, VMADCP, underway CTD, two gliders, drifters, and a surface buoy with subsurface ADCP to infer vertical velocity in the context of the frontal physics.
