| Summary: | [EN] Cervantes’ work, particularly Don Quixote, is amply represented in the artistic production of the Spanish exiles after 1939. Among this group, Don Quixote became an iconic symbol of their situation because of his idealism and his engagement with his motherland. This study presents a chronological overview of the most important countries and artistic environments of the Spanish exile. It also analyzes the artists, works and circumstances that contributed to makingof Don Quixote the lay patron saint of the wandering Spanish "republicans", an icon of the permanence of their inspiration and their strong ideals. |
