This critical tool gained great relevance in the 1980s, and is still used today to assess difficult international relations in different fields. In addition, it is one of the main lines of work of several highly relevant contemporary artists, such as the Brazilian artist Adriana Varejão (Rio de Janeiro, 1964). Varejão's works are characterized by a strong plastic presence in which he incorporates multiple narratives. These narratives are overwritten, generating visual tensions that serve as a metaphor for social and historical situations. With her works, the artist brings long-buried issues to the surface. For this communication, we propose a case study based on various works by this artist that have the Brazilian colonial period as their plot base, deciphering the strategies that the artist uses to deal with such a delicate and sensitive issue through the creation of powerful and full works. of meaning. We will focus mainly on two series Linguas e cortes and Charques. We intend not only to analyze the work of this artist, but also to establish the possibilities of art as a space for reflection on social issues that go beyond the limits of a specific sphere of humanity.[ES] Poscolonialismo es un término que habitualmente se emplea para definir una postura que analiza los efectos que produjo la colonización de diversos países por metrópolis europeas.
