Resumo:Over the last forty years, a considerable number of theologians, moral theologians and canonists have offered many reasons in support of the de facto dissolubility of canonical marriage ratum et consummatum. They have explained that indissolubility may be a Christian ideal but not an absolute condition that makes a new marriage impossible; nor that the new marriage prevents the faithful from taking the sacraments. In response to such arguments, the reaction of the ecclesiastical magisterium has been frequent and unanimous. The popes and some key Dicasteries of the Roman Curia have adopted a clear and well-grounded position. In this regard, the doctrinal introduction to an edition of texts produced by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1998 offers greater appreciation and understanding of the reasons given by Magisterium and those of its critics.
