| Resumo: | Understanding the underlying dynamics of a species is essential for the magagment and assess- ment of marine resources. Thus, in this study, we analyze the variability of size at first maturity (i.e., length at which the 50 % of individuals reach sexual maturity, L 50 ) and the relative condition factor (i.e., an indicator of the body condition, K n ), of the European hake in the Atlantic Iberian waters for the study period 1980-2019. In addition, the interannual variability of these life traits is assessed with respect to environmental variables, (i.e., Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, the North Atlantic Oscillation and Sea Surface Temperature), and biological variables (i.e., individuals bio- mass,spawning biomass and size) using generalized additive models. The datasets of the European hake were provided by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography of Vigo while the environmental variables were extracted from freely accessible databases.The results of this study show, on the one hand, a temporal trend to decrease in the size at first maturity of European hake and, on the other hand, a variation of the relative condition factor depends mainly on the size.These results could be the tkey to understand the European hake stock status in Iberian Atlantic Waters. |
