Description
Summary:The Democratic Party from which the Republican Party would develop in 1868, began to form in Alicante at the end of the "Bienio Progresista", when a part of Progressivism changed quickly over to Democratic ideas. The years 1864 and 1865 include the greatest organization period of the growing Party with the setting up of circles, clubs and the first committees with different levels of activity: local, district and provincial. Finally, in 1865 the setting up of the magazine Fígaro completed the organizing tasks of the Democratic alicantinos with the aim of spreading their ideology and their party programme.
