| Resumo: | Introduction: Persons who inject drugs are one of the most vulnerable people of the drug-addiction treatment services and the harm reduction services. The objective of this study is to analyze the feasibility of to develop mHealth applications. Methods: Descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study of a sample of 518 persons who inject drugs of Barcelona and Girona recruited in five services of drug-addiction treatment and harm reduction. An ad hoc questionary about drug-related health status, personal mobile phone characteristics of use and opinion about personal data communication and interest of mHealth application specific of harm reduction was conducted. Results: The average of time using injected drugs was 14.2 years, the 76.8% were cared for in the ambulatory public treatment or harm reduction services. When participants were recruited, the 90.2% owned a mobile phone and the 86.9% a smartphone. An 89.9% of persons who had a mobile phone referred interest in mHealth applications with an average of interest of 9.1/10 points. Discussion: Persons who inject drugs are users of mobile phones and smartphones at the same level and with the same motivations as the general population. Furthermore, the interest about mHealth is high and majority, especially with app addressed to provide needles and other injection materials. This study considers as feasible to generate attention and interest in persons who inject drugs about mHealth applications and at the same time to offer viable alternatives to deploy some no face-to-face health benefits |
