Descripción
Sumario:This report contains the research, knowledge transfer and communication actions conducted in 2023 in order to 1) develop a tool for measuring a series of skills, targeted at over 54s in the Valencia Region, and 2) promote initiatives for generating knowledge and creating spaces for participation and communication. To that end, a number of actions were carried out, listed in the table of contents of this document. First, the document presents the main decisions made so as to develop a tool for measuring a set of dimensions related to media literacy and digital skills (“AgeComTest”). The pretest was focused on adults aged over 54 who, on the one hand, were enrolled on degree programmes at public universities in the Valencia Region or, on the other, attended IT workshops at active ageing centres in the cities of Alicante, Elche, Castellón and Valencia. In addition to the quantitative data gathered, other qualitative results obtained from in-class observation were recorded. Second, meetings were arranged with social stakeholders to present the Research Chair’s results and learn from their experience, seeking to set priority lines of action. Following their recommendations, four broad groups of possible actions were established. Third, more projects on the generational digital divide were promoted through a new award for undergraduate and Master’s theses. The aim was to stimulate interest and encourage medium- and high-impact knowledge generation. Fourth, two free, accessible webinars were held. The lectures delivered at those events are available on the Research Chair’s website. Fifth, several information videos were recorded as part of the campaign “Shared stories: experiences with the digital divide”, so as to shed light on and raise awareness of issues related to the generational digital divide. The campaign revolved around five themes: innovation; social intervention; digital needs; intergenerational support; and digital literacy. Finally, a priority objective this year was to improve communication through the Research Chair’s own channels. Three lines of action were established: focusing part of the communication work on the awards for undergraduate and Master’s theses; disseminating the activities undertaken by the Research Chair; and giving visibility to its mission by highlighting key concepts and sharing excerpts from studies carried out over these years. The University of Alicante Research Chair in the Generational Digital Divide is part of the network of research chairs funded by the Valencia Region Government’s Department for Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism. The Research Chair works with the five public universities in the Valencia Region to analyse and find solutions to the digital divide in the area.
