| Sumario: | [eng] Within the speleological panorama of the first half of the 19th century in Mallorca, the personage of Joaquim Maria Bover de Rosselló (1810-1865) stands out. This writer and historical researcher published, between 1836 and 1844, the detailed descriptions of four caves on the island: Coves d’Artà, or de l’Ermita (Capdepera), Cova Nova de Son Lluís (Porreres), Cova de Can Sion (Pollença), and Cova de Canet (Esporles). We proceed to make an approach to this facet of his literary work, carried out from a speleological perspective that contextualizes the exploration challenges and the contributions made by him on the visited caves. The publications of this author had an important subsequent impact on the literature dedicated to Mallorcan cavities throughout the 19th century. There is no doubt that Joaquim Maria Bover must be considered a key player in the dissemination and early knowledge of the caves of Mallorca, and can be described as a true pioneer of speleology on our island. |
