Sumario:[EN] On September 10th 1745 there was inaugurated in the Saint Giles the Abbot’s parish of Saragossa the collection of sculptures of anchorite and penitent saints, works by the Aragonese sculptor José Ramírez de Arellano, placed on the sides of the church’s nave on large gilt carved consoles. It is not known who was the maecenas that paid for these sculptures, but several theories, all included in this work, were developed. The saints represented are; Saint Paul the Hermit, Saint Anthony the Abbot, Saint Mary Magdalene, Saint Mary Aegyptiaca, Saint Hilarion the Abbot and Saint Macarius the Abbot. Years later, the collection was completed with another sculpture, that of Saint Caprasius, and the magnificent pulpit with scenes of the life of Saint Giles the Abbot. There is an iconographic study for each of these saints.
