Description
Summary:Magnetic field generators with the ability to create well-controlled dynamic fields in arbitrary directions are an essential tool to investigate magnetic soft matter and to drive (sub)micrometer structures to targeted locations. In this article we present the design and performance of a triaxial generator based on three fractal capacitor banks that enable real-time control of the output field and a quasi-continuous distribution of resonant frequencies up to 4 kHz. The increased field strength over the entire frequency range will enhance the response of magnetorheological fluids as well as the velocity and load capacity of magnetic swarms that, in recent years, have made the leap from in vitro to in vivo studies of targeted drug delivery.
